Rakhi Karwa is a native of the Midwest. She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. A buckeye at heart, she attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree. Rakhi graduated from The Ohio State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences. After graduation, Rakhi started pharmacy school at University of California, San Francisco. She completed her rotations at University of California, Davis Medical Center where she first discovered her interest in infectious diseases. She graduated with her Doctorate in Pharmacy in May 2005.

Rakhi completed two years of residency training at University of North Carolina Hospitals. During her PGY1 year, she completed a general practice residency. Because of the presence of clinical pharmacy at UNC and the interaction with the school of pharmacy, she decided to stay at UNC for her Infectious Diseases Specialty Residency. She currently practices at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Rakhi hopes to expand her area of practice to include an international focus on pharmacy involvement in infectious diseases.
