Alabama Pharmacy Association (APA) once again sponsored the annual APA
Legislative Day on Thursday, April 29th. Auburn University Harrison
School of Pharmacy was well represented with a delegation of 31
faculty, staff and student pharmacists.
This is a very important event for Alabama
pharmacists and HSOP student pharmacists because it's an opportunity to
showcase pharmaceutical care services to Alabama legislators.
Dr. Kimberly Braxton Lloyd, Director of
the Auburn University Pharmaceutical Care Center reports:
"We
performed 100 cholesterol evaluations (and could have done more if time
allowed), 38 osteoporosis screenings, 64 cardiovascular risk assessments,
and a large number of blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI)
screenings. Dr. Bernie Olin, Director of the HSOP Drug Information Center, also was
available to respond to drug information questions. We had a fantastic
turn out of legislators who took advantage of the screenings we offered.
It was a very good day."
Afterward, all volunteers met for lunch before returning to Auburn —
tired, but left with the feeling they had helped raise the awareness of
the importance of pharmaceutical care in the State.
