Harrison School of Pharmacy finally saw the start of the long awaited
building renovation project in late March. The projected completion date
for the new building is 2005. Along with jackhammers ripping out some
walls, carpenters reconstructing other protective walls, demolition
equipment starting to eat away at the old auditorium, and various other
strange, unaccustomed noises, the residents of HSOP have settled down
for the long haul. This is a huge undertaking that has required a great
deal of internal coordination and planning just to prepare for the
construction teams to arrive and start their work. For example, many
classes had to be shifted to other rooms on campus, and several
classrooms, offices and storage areas had to be totally cleaned out or
rearranged. This work and preparation has been ongoing for months.
However, even with all
the commotion, there is also an air of excitement at the School that the
dream of a new building has actually begun. The renovation is actually a
two phase project. The work is now in Phase I which focuses on the
new addition of the Education and Clinic Wing. Phase II will enhance the
research mission by remodeling the teaching labs into research labs and
add Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). You'll
be able to follow the progress of each phase on our Website as it
proceeds.
We want to share our excitement with you, our constituents. The School now has a
live
WebCam on top of
Haley Center so interested parties can have an up-to-the-minute, wide
angle view of the progress. We
also have a new
Building Renovation page on our Website
which includes photos, updated weekly, giving a more
up-close-and-personal look at the progress. As time goes on, we will add
other features to the Building Renovation page where you will find a
wealth of information on all things connected with the renovation
project. We'll keep you posted. For now, please bookmark the WebCam
link and enjoy our slide show of photographs on the Construction Update
pages.
