ay 11th,
2004 was a
long awaited day for 62 happy Auburn
University Harrison School of Pharmacy graduates. A family brunch
started the day off right. And then it was time for the graduates to get
into their caps and gowns, a time which always generates much chatter
and excitement.
The
animated atmosphere quickly turned solemn, however, as the pomp and
ceremony began. Graduation Marshall,
Dr. Randall Clark, professor of the
Pharmacal Sciences Department, and student Graduation Marshall, Laura
Nealey Floyd, led the
processional. After everyone was seated, Graduate Danna Hatley led the
congregation in a moment of reflection. Ken Prickett-'86, President of
the Auburn Pharmacy Alumni Association welcomed everyone followed by the
student address, given this year by John Frederick. The commencement
speaker was Robert Cipolle, Director of Peters institute of
Pharmaceutical Care at the University of Minnesota.
However, the highlight of
the day, for most, was when Dean
Evans and Provost Thomas R. Hanley presented the 62 Doctor of Pharmacy Candidates. Dr. Clark assisted
with the roll call and Dr. Paul Jungnickel assisted with the
hooding
of the candidates. Each graduate walked across the stage and shook Dean
Evan's hand as they received their degrees. It's always an emotional
time for the graduates and their families as they reflect on the many
years of hard work and sacrifice
represented by this moment. As a gift from the School, each student will
receive a professional photograph capturing that special moment forever.
Dean Evans gave a few
closing remarks after the class raised their right hands and repeated
the Pharmacist's Oath, led this year by Joe D. Wright, R.Ph, Class of
1979. And with that, the class of 2004 became official HSOP Pharm.D.
graduates.
This year the graduating
class had 3 Cum Laude graduates, 4 Magna Cum Laude graduates and 5 Suma
Cum Laude graduates—a very good showing for the class. But everyone who
received a degree can be extremely proud of his/her accomplishment.
Congratulations 2004 Harrison School of Pharmacy Pharm.D. graduates and
best of luck in your future lives and careers.
