Darrell M. Craven, District Manager of Eli Lilly, recently made a donation to the Harrison School of Pharmacy.
hird year pharmacy student Jenifer Stanford has had a lot to deal with since her husband Trent was critically injured in an automobile accident in April. He was on his way to work at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Opelika, AL when the accident occurred. Trent’s most serious injuries were head and spinal trauma that required several weeks in the intensive care unit at UAB. His recovery was continued in a rehabilitation unit at the hospital. Further rehabilitation will began in mid-August at the Spain Rehabilitation facility in Birmingham and is expected to continue for several months.

Meanwhile, Jennifer has persevered. Through the summer, with the support of some dedicated faculty, she has completed the coursework that was lost during those first critical days following Trent’s accident. Jenifer has earned much admiration as she has coped with this crisis and maintained her position in her class to finish her pharmacy degree in 2005. Most of you reading this know that the schoolwork alone is no easy task

Upon learning of the Sanfords' tragedy, Trent’s employer, Wal-Mart, decided they wanted to help Jenifer and Trent. And help they did-in a very big way with an $11,000 scholarship for Jenifer’s 3rd year at HSOP. Wal-Mart representatives made a surprise presentation to Jenifer on August 13, 2003 in Dean Lee Evans' office. Jenifer's parents and grandparents were also surprised guests for the presentation. The photos don't do justice to the emotion of the moment, but needless to say, Jenifer and her loved ones were delighted, surprised and a bit overwhelmed. The Harrison School of Pharmacy wishes to thank Wal-Mart for their thoughtful generosity on behalf of Jenifer and Trent Stanford.

Jenifer and Trent's story has touched all of the HSOP family. We have started a scholarship fund for Jenifer’s fourth year of pharmacy school. Donations may be made to the Harrison School of Pharmacy Scholarship Fund. Specify the gift for Jenifer Sanford and mail to:
