hings are
looking up around here. All of a sudden, our new Annex looks like a real
building. The building now has roofing and metal framing which gives it a
real substance that wasn't there in our last update. But from the street
one can see right through the building...see the construction crew
busily continuing to work their magic. They are now working on solid
concrete floors. No more dangling dangerously on I-beams. You can see the air and heating ductwork on the ceilings. The skylight now stands out in dramatic contrast to
the solid, first-stage roofing. Actually, it's rather like one of those ant hill
projects for kids; basically, you slice the ant hill in half to see the
inner structure of the colony. As rapidly as the changes are
happening on the Annex, that slice-of-life won't last long. But it's a
fascinating view while it lasts.

Here's the contractor's technical review of
the work done in September:
1. Concrete: All slab on decks are poured, slab on grade is
expected to be done in next few weeks.
2. Steel Erection: 85% complete
3. Roofing: Shingle Roofing will begin on Monday, Oct.11
4. Fireproofing: Completed 2nd and 3rd floors
5. Metal Studs: Began metal stud installation around building
perimeter on 2nd and 3rd floors
6. Plumbing: All underground work is complete. The plumbing
overhead rough-in has begun in the building.
7. HVAC: The ductwork rough-in has begun in the building.
8. Electrical: All in slab electrical rough-in is complete.
Electrical rough-in for the tiered lecture hall and the rest of the slab
on grade is underway.
9. Fire Protection (Sprinkler System): The system is complete on
the third floor of the existing building and over half way complete on
the fourth floor of the existing building. The system will not be
functional until completion of construction.
10. Group Room Alternate Area (inside old building): The metal
stud partition walls are 95% complete. Electrical in-wall rough in has
been completed. Overhead HVAC rough-in is underway. Delivery of door
frames should be next week which will allow for metal stud framing to be
complete.

Football and Hurricane Ivan
Fall and Auburn football is in the air. The team is rising in the
rankings, hurricanes have come and gone and the new building keeps going
onward and upward. By the way, neither the old nor the new building was
harmed by Hurricane Ivan although the strong winds and rain did some
damage in the community — mostly downed trees and power outages. If you
had stock in batteries or bottled water, you probably have reason to
smile right now, because those two things were like gold in the Auburn
area. If any of you were in the path of the hurricanes, you know about
the scarcity of water and batteries. And if you were, we wish you the
good fortune that we've had here and hope you are up and running
normally again by now.
