areer Day always
brings out the best in all concerned. HSOP students arrive attired in
their business best. The vendors always have a welcoming smile, an
extended hand and a table full of small, often intriguing, gifts to give
away. This year the event was held on Nov 1st and 2nd and once again
was hosted by the AU Hotel and
Conference Center. The first day led off with the various
representatives manning their display areas, which were positioned side-by-side with
each other along the Conference Center's main hallway, trying to attract
as many students as possible. Streams
of students slowly made the rounds, stopping at whatever displays
interested them. The second day was filled with interviews. Of
the 92 students scheduled to graduate from Harrison School of Pharmacy
in May 2005, 68 of them interviewed with 24 vendors during 2004 Career
Day. Don't miss the slide show (In Left hand column).
POSITIVE FEEDBACK
Just as they did last year, the Hotel and Conference Center catered a
box lunch for participants in one
of
their private rooms. This lunch-time amenity got good feedback from the
vendors. They said they were thankful they didn't have to fight traffic
during the lunch break as they once had. Most were glad to get off their
feet for a few minutes in a quiet room away from the hustle and bustle
of the hallways and replenish their energy before the afternoon
interviews. Another comment expressed appreciation for the students'
wearing of name badges with easily seen names and class years and the
fact that the students were dressed professionally. Apparently these
things set the Auburn experience apart from some other places the
vendors visit. Brinda Lisano, Executive Assistant to the Dean, and
Laurie Smith, Academic Advisor, plan these events each year. They always work hard to
make Career Day a good experience for the students and vendors. They
deserve credit for noticing and making these kinds of changes over the
past few years. These impromptu comments speak to what a good job they
are doing.
Thanks to all the vendors and
representatives who participated in 2004 Career Day:
