ay 10th,
2005 was a
long awaited day for 90 happy Auburn
University Harrison School of Pharmacy graduates. It was a proud day for
parents and loved ones as well. This was one of the largest graduation
classes in several years and a respectable 18% graduated with honors. The pomp and
ceremony of the march down the isle of the Student Activities Building
made every heart beat a little faster. Graduation Marshall,
Dr. Randall Clark, professor of the
Pharmacal Sciences Department, and student Graduation Marshall, Anne
Marie Liles, led the processional.
After everyone was seated, '04 graduate, Haley Chandler, led the
congregation in a moment of reflection. Phillip Rigsby, '02, President of
the Auburn Pharmacy Alumni Association, welcomed everyone followed by
Shay Smith's student address. The commencement speaker was Burnis
Breland, Director of Pharmacy Services and Clinical Research at Columbus
Regional Healthcare Systems.
However, the most
auspicious moment of
the day was when Dean
Evans and Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, John Heilman, presented the
90 Doctor of Pharmacy Candidates. Dr. Clark assisted
with the roll call and Dr. Paul Jungnickel assisted with the hooding of
the candidates. Each graduate walked across the stage and shook Dean
Evan's hand as they received their degrees. (see link:
View Proofs of Graduates) As a gift from the
School, each student receives a professional photograph capturing
that special moment forever. It's always a happy,
yet emotional time for the graduates and their families as they reflect
on everything that has contributed to this moment.
Dean Evans gave a few
closing remarks after the class had raised their right hands and repeated
the Pharmacist's Oath. The Oath was administered this year by Herman G. Roehm,
Jr, R.Ph, Class of
1976. Then these newly official graduates joined family and friends on
the nearby patio for some snacks and drinks, lots of smiles, a few
tears, and a photo op with Aubie.
It was the perfect ending of a perfect day for the graduates and their
families. Our thanks to Aubie for adding so much to everyone's
enjoyment. (See
slideshow on sidebar) Thanks also to Ms. Elizabeth Rutland, pianist,
and Ms. Hillary Kyger, soloist, for adding to the occasion with their
music.
Congratulations to the 2005 Harrison School of Pharmacy Pharm.D. graduates and
best of luck in your future lives and careers. We at HSOP are very proud
of your accomplishments and look forward to following up on your future
successes.
