Dr. Ken Barker Becomes Honorary Member of ASHP



 

 


enneth N. Barker, B.S., M.S., Ph.D., and Director of the Center for Pharmacy Operations and DesignPortrait of Ken Barker (CPOD),  has had a long, distinguished career in pharmacy. This year, he adds yet another award. The Board of Directors of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has approved his selection as an Honorary Member.

A short list of Dr. Barker's honors includes the 2002 Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Lifetime Achievement Award and the 1998 Remington Honor Medal — the American Pharmaceutical Association's highest honor. He is also the Sterling Distinguished Professor in Auburn University's Harrison School of Pharmacy.

Furthermore, Dr. Barker holds claim to a series of innovations that have had a major impact on the practice of pharmacy and the quality of American healthcare. For instance, he developed the concept of the "Pharmacy of the Future" in cooperation with Eckerd Drugs. And he produced a robotic machine called "ScriptPro" that cuts down on dispensing errors

Dr. Barker will receive Honorary Membership into ASHP on December 5th, 2005 at the Opening General Session of the Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas, NV. The following evening he will address the ASHP Officers during dinner where he will be the honored guest.

Congratulations to Dr. Kenneth Barker for continuing to strive for personal excellence and for bringing favorable recognition to Auburn University and the Harrison School of Pharmacy.
