Tour of working labs: Special thanks go
to Dr. Vishnu Suppiramanian and his graduate students who opened
their lab to visitors and graciously answered questions for
everyone. Dr. Greg Kochak did the same in his manufacturing lab
where he showed how tablets are made and talked to parents about
the process. Drs. Omelczuk and Parsons opened their labs so
their students could demonstrate medical compounding in the
making of creams and ointments..
Dean Evans met with parents and their student pharmacists in
his 2nd floor conference room. As men in yellow hard hats rode
up and down in hydraulic buckets in front of the room's big
picture windows, the Dean
talked about the plans for the future of the new building. He
spoke of high tech solutions to common problems created over the past few
years by curriculum changes, limited space and outdated
facilities. He also spoke of the natural advancement of
technology over those same years and how HSOP will benefit from
that in its new environment. Indeed, HSOP will be the only school in the
United States with an
in-house clinic and one of the few schools with high level wireless
communications and video conferencing. Alumni can take pride in the fact that their School will be
surging ahead, and in fact, setting the standard for all other pharmacy
schools in the nation with such innovative state-of-the-art facilities and technology.
Visitors were free to have an independent tour the new AU Pharmacy, see
its modern facilities and brand new site -- a location many will
remember as "the old
agricultural fields." Nancy Kickliter continues as Chief Pharmacist.
The new facility now has an attractive, contemporary decor with more
room to serve their patients more efficiently and comfortably.
Refreshments were served in room 319 where HSOP Director of
Recruitment, Charlie Perry, was ready to answer questions for parents
and/or student pharmacists. And last but not least, the student
organizations had HSOP imprinted items for sale to raise money
for their community projects. All the officers and
members of the student pharmacy organizations did an outstanding
and professional job of hosting visitors, conducting tours and
hosting their organizations' tables. And as usual, the event
wound down by 11AM leaving plenty of time for everyone to attend
Auburn's "A" Day football game in the afternoon.
All volunteers deserves a lot of credit for their hard work.
Attending faculty members not previously mentioned are: Ms. Ann Janer.
Dr. Thomas Maple. Drs. Kimberly Braxton Lloyd, Kelly
Hester, Bob Smith, and Emily Mann and Paul Jungnickel of the Pharmacy Practice Department. And let's not
forget non-faculty members Don Davino, Hunter Peak, Kathy Kyle and Jane Drake.
