n October
4th, the 7th Annual Clinical Skills competition at AUHSOP was held. This
event, sponsored by the student chapter of Alabama (and American)
Society of Health-System Pharmacists (AlSHP/ASHP), is both a local and
national competition for student pharmacists.

This year seven teams participated in our
local competition (2 P4 teams, 1 P3 team, and 1 P2 team).
They all did a fantastic job and the judges were impressed with each
team's performance. However, there could only be one winner.
Congratulations to the winning team for the 2005 AUHSOP Clinical Skills
Competition, P4 students, Christian Sanders and Lynsey
Neighbors. We
wish Christian and Lynsey the best of luck as they represent Auburn at the
national competition at the upcoming ASHP Midyear meeting in Las Vegas!
How it works
Students work in self‑selected pairs and are
given a case study which reflects actual scenarios that pharmacists may
encounter in any patient care setting. The team has 2 hours to identify
acute & chronic medical problems, construct a drug therapy problem list,
and develop a pharmacist's care plan (references are available). Each
team must also justify their care plan in a 10 minute oral presentation
(5 minutes for presentation, 5 minutes for questions).
Teams are evaluated on the accuracy,
relevance, and completeness of their written information, as well as the
oral defense of their care plan. Winning teams from each school will
proceed to the national competition at the ASHP Midyear Meeting in
December.
Congratulations also to the 2nd place
winning team: Sara Fletcher and Nicole Coker and the 3rd
place winning team: Min Hui Loi-Braden and Jalynn Gray.
