9th,
2006 was a
long awaited day for 103 happy Auburn
University Harrisonson School of Pharmacy graduates. (Five more Pharm.D.
degrees were awarded during Summer graduation, bringing the total number
of graduates for 2006 to 108.) It was a proud day for
parents and loved ones as well. The pomp and ceremony of the march down
the isle of the Student Activities Building made every heart beat a
little faster. Commencement Marshal
Dr. Randall Clark, professor of the
Pharmacal Sciences Department, and student Graduation Marshal Cori
Williams, '06, led the processional.
After everyone was seated, '06 graduate Jason Thomas, led the
congregation in a few moments of reflection. Phillip Rigsby, '02, President of
the Auburn Pharmacy Alumni Association, welcomed everyone. The commencement speaker was
Alabama native and AU Pharmacy graduate Major General C. Mark Bowen, '64, the
Adjutant General of the Alabama Army National Guard and Air National
Guard.
The ceremony was perfect
for the occasion, but the most anticipated moment of the day was when
Dean
Evans and Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs John Heilman presented
all the Doctor of Pharmacy Candidates. Dr. Clark and Dr. Paul Jungnickel
assisted with the roll call and hooding of
the candidates. Each graduate walked across the stage and shook Dean
Evan's hand as they received their degree. (see link:
View Proofs of Graduates) As a gift from the
School, each student receives a professional photograph capturing
that special moment forever. It's always a happy,
yet emotional time for the graduates and their families as they reflect
on everything that has contributed to this moment.
Dean Evans gave a few closing remarks after the class had raised their
right hands and repeated the Pharmacist's Oath. The Oath was
administered this year by Samuel J. Maloy, Jr., R.Ph., '78. Then the new graduates joined family and friends on
the nearby patio for some hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Of course, add to
that lots of smiles, and a few tears.
Despite the sadness of saying goodbyes and leaving friends, it was still the perfect ending of a perfect day
and a productive four years at HSOP for the graduates and their
families.
Our thanks to Ms. Elizabeth Rutland, pianist, and Ms. Virginia Elliott, soloist, for adding
so much to the occasion with their
music.
Congratulations to the 2006 Harrison School of Pharmacy Pharm.D. graduates and
best of luck in your future lives and careers. We at HSOP are very proud
of your accomplishments and look forward to following up on your future
successes.
