Residency Conference at HSOP

21 Residency Programs were represented at Harrison School of Pharmacy's Residency Conference, 2006n Tuesday, October 17th, the Alabama Society of Health-System Pharmacists (AlSHP) sponsored a residency conference for AUHSOP. This program was held in the Educational/Clinic wing at HSOP. The purpose of this event is to allow student pharmacists to learn more about post-graduate residency programs and to allow residency programs in the Southeast a chance to have a face-to-face meeting with prospective residents. Residency programs from 21 medical or educational institutions from across the Southeast were showcased.

The first part of the conference took place in the Tiered Auditorium. David Collette opened the meeting with an overview of the conference. Collette is a Clinical Specialist at Huntsville Hospital, and Clinical Assistant Professor at AUSHOP. Dean Lee Evans gave the official welcome.

Jessica Starr, HSOP Alumnae: Keynote Speaker at the HSOP Residency Conference, 2006The Keynote speaker was one of HSOP's own, Dr. Jessica Starr, who had recently completed her residency and has started her professional career back at her alma mater. She has a very informative slide and lecture presentation and then took questions from the audience.

After Dr. Starr's presentation, student pharmacists participated in an open mic session with thirty-five current residents from various programs all over the United States. The residents talked freely about their experiences, gave advise and answered questions from the floor. Anyone wondering what the life of a resident was like got a good overview from this diverse group.Exhibits at HSOP Residency Conference, 2006

After lunch, Display Booths were set up in the Flex Auditorium. This gave an opportunity for student pharmacists to speak one-on-one with residency directors and current residents, learn about their programs and ask questions. What a great way to network, find out about residencies and meet future colleagues!
