HSOP Cohosts NABP/AACP District III Annual Meeting - August 17 - 19
HSOP, in conjunction with The Alabama State Board of Pharmacy, is hosting this year's annual meeting at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida. Unique this year is a pre-meeting survey which will make the meeting more interactive by letting participants choose discussion issues that are most relevant to them.

Brief agenda: Cohosts Dean Lee Evans and Mr. Herb Bobo will welcome attendees, followed by a Necrology Report by the District III Treasurer, Dr. George Cocolas. The survey results will be reported by HSOP professor Bill Felkey, and the keynote address will be given by Dr. Ron Franks, Vice President of the University of South Alabama’s School of Medicine. Keynote addresses on day two and three will be given by Drs Lucinda Maine and Carmen Catizone and Dean Lee Evans, respectively. Now in its fifth year, the Academic Leadership Fellows program is designed to develop the nation's most promising faculty for roles as future leaders in academic pharmacy and higher education. Selection of Fellows is made on the basis of a nomination letter, the proposed mentoring plan for the Fellow’s involvement in leadership learning experiences at the home institution, and the nominee’s letter of intent. Former HSOP recipients include Vishnu Suppiramaniam, Amy Donaldson, and Kimberly Braxton-Lloyd.

Auburn Alums Are Honored at 2008 APA Convention
David Darby, a 1982 Auburn graduate, was honored recently at the Alabama Pharmacy Association's annual convention and trade show with the Lester White Good Government Award.

"David is a true statesman at heart and always presents pharmacy's political presence in a positive light," says Steve Love, APA Immediate Past-President and also an Auburn alum. The award is presented to an APA member who actively contributes to the community through their voluntary involvement in the political process to advance the pharmacy profession.

New Technology for the AU Pharmaceutical Care Center Pharmacy
The AUPCC Employee Pharmacy installed a ScriptPro SP 200 robotic dispensing unit on May 1, 2008. The machine counts medications into an appropriate sized vial and places the label on the vial. Accuracy and speed of dispensing are increased, with bar-coding and electronic scanning used to double-check that the correct medication has been dispensed. A similar system has been used in the AU Student Pharmacy for the past ten years.
