Student Pharmacist Putting on the greens

tudent Pharmacists, faculty, alumni and sponsors participated in the 11th Annual Harrison School of Pharmacy Scholarship Golf Tournament at Auburn Links at Mill Creek on Friday, October 5. This was the first time at Auburn Links. The Club lived up to its reputation with a beautiful environment of lakes, pebbled streams and golf cart trails winding through the fall colors of the hardwoods.

Thirty-two student pharmacists participated in the event out of ninety-nine total players. They all came to support a good cause, have a good time and put in a little practice on their golf game. If the prevalent jovial mood was any indication, everyone was having fun in the sun on a glorious day for golf. At the end of the day, $12,000 was raised to support student scholarships.

Student Pharmacists take advantage of Photo Op with Aubie. An appearance by Aubie helped the good moods along, even for those who were not so happy with their scores. This year we had several desirable items up for the Silent Auction: a large plasma TV, IPods and two regulation size footballs signed by Coach Tommy Tuberville. Most winning teams received engraved crystal trophies. Other sponsors chipped in with golf bags, t-shirts, towels, balls, tees, bags and covers. An award winning picture of Toomers Corner -- now AND then --  was donated for the Putting contest.

We also had a new contest this year called The Ball Drop. Aubie did the honors by tossing golf balls onto the putting green from his lofty position atop a crane. Aubie was gracious enough to pose for photos with anyone who asked. See our slideshow. The hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixin's just hit the spot around lunch time. As they say, "It doesn't get much better than that.

Many other people are responsible for making this year's tournament such a success. We couldn’t do it without them.
