tudent
pharmacists, faculty, alumni and sponsors participated in the 14th
Annual Harrison
School of Pharmacy Scholarship Golf Tournament at Auburn Links at Mill
Creek on September 24. This was HSOP's fourth tournament at Auburn
Links. The course’s beautiful environment of lakes, pebbled streams,
wooden bridges, and golf cart trails winding through the woods
guarantees a pleasant golfing experience for all participants.
Sunny Weather
You
may remember the pictures of muddy shoes and water logged sand traps
from last year. This year we had better luck – no rain, just gorgeous
sunshine. That meant the lunchtime hamburgers and hot dogs could be
served once again on the large comfortable deck. Of course, the real
reason everyone comes to play golf is to support student scholarships.
This year's efforts paid off well as $5,235
was raised for scholarships. Thanks to everyone who came and
participated. It means a lot to our student pharmacists.
Aubie
and The Ball Drop Contest
As it turns out, the prime spot to watch the putting contest and the
ball drop is from the clubhouse deck. Auburn's mascot, Aubie, took full
advantage of his tree-skimming photo op. No wonder he is consistently
voted in the top tier of nationwide mascots. That guy can put on a show.
This year he even ended up sun bathing in a sand trap to entertain his
audience. If you don’t remember what the ball drop contest is, Aubie
tosses a bucket of golf balls onto the green below while lifted high in
the air by a crane. The winner picks the nearest ball to the hole. This
year's winner was
John Cox.
He won $500.00. “Nice work if you can get it,” as the song says. The
ball drop also raised $855 for scholarships.
Special Guests
Of course, Aubie is always a welcome guest at our golf tournament. But
this year he shared special guest honors with some Auburn football
legends: Tommy Lorino and Jackie Burkett, members of AU’s 1957
Championship Team. They also autographed a special picture for the
occasion. Two members of the 1966 squad were also guests: Tom Bryan and
Bucky Ayers. And it turns out they’re
pretty good golfers too (see prize below). Everyone enjoyed getting to
meet them and we hope they’ll come back again soon.
Winners & Awards
This
year 21 teams were formed. At the end of the day, it’s always nice to
receive recognition for playing well. Below is a listing of all the
contests and winners. Each member of each team received a beautiful
crystal plaque. In addition, Each player received a duffle bag, water
bottle, cap, golf towel, sleeve of golf balls and a koozie.
