Briefly describe innovation:
PCA Nebraska:
Private Consultation. In this community pharmacy there has been private consultation areas
set up in order to gather important information from the patient. The pharmacist is able
to get a complete patient database with these private areas. A computer program is used to
get total medical history, current disease states, past surgeries, OTC medications, and
lifestyle habits. With this program the pharmacist is able to analyze the medical regimen
and provide a better, more complete total regimen.
Method of Reimbursement:
The method of reimbursement is slow and coming.

Is documentation required? Yes
The pharmacist charts the visit and submits it on a 1500 form. This form is also used to
keep medical supplies on it.
Specialized training required? No
There is some initial homework after interviewing the patient to see if there are any
problems. Anyone with a B.S. degree in pharmacy is capable of doing this.
Software/instrumentation required? No
Currently, the pharmacy is using a computer program called DataMed from the company
Pharmaceutical Outcome. The pharmacy is not pleased with this program and is looking at
buying a more user friendly one.
