Briefly describe innovation:

Mr. Aucoin is in the process of building a Community Counseling practice. He is currently changing the physical layout of his pharmacy in order to include a separate area for counseling. Mr. Aucoin has a commitment to pharmaceutical care and is incorporating these principles in to a traditional community pharmacy practice. He is dedicated to concerning the pharmacist with maximizing the patient's therapeutic outcomes instead of just being involved with delivery of a product. He intends to start with diabetes counseling due to the large number of diabetes patients in the area, and their great need for education. He is currently in training to become certified in the area of diabetes and also intends to become certified in pulmonary care. Mr. Aucoin is confident that if results are thoroughly documented and if other practitioners are implementing the same standards of care, that this type of service will not be considered an oddity, and patients and third parties will willingly provide reimbursement for these services.

Reimbursement rate : Probably will be billed on a quarterly hour basis.

Specialized training required? Mr. Aucoin is currently in training to become a Certified Diabetes Educator and also plans to become certified in Pulmonary Care.
