Briefly describe innovation
He has distinguished himself in three distinct areas of innovation: long term care, home infusion therapy and implementation of the pharmaceutical care concept. He did not speak much about his innovations, but that each were done at a different site. In the pharmaceutical care concept, he had to add office space which is semiprivate and made especially for counseling. This was completed in 1995. It was done in conjunction with the University of Iowa to evaluate the concept of pharmaceutical care in a community pharmacy setting. Since this is the first of its kind in his area, he says that people have not yet become receptive to this idea but feels that it will advance pharmacy practice in the service to the public. He could not talk to me much about either his long term care or home infusion. He was very busy when I interviewed him.
Method of Reimbursement
