Briefly describe innovation

Opened first in-house based family practice pharmacy. The system was developed with an emphasis on patient counseling. The physician would examine the patient, as in any medical office, but the pharmacist would fill the medication from the patient's cha rt and counsel the patient about their medication directly in the examination room before the patient left the office. The pharmacist would work directly in the lab with the physician and other medical personnel. Convenience for the patient also became a strong point.

Today, there are five medical practices surrounding York with a licensed pharmacy in each site, staffing five full-time registered pharmacists. After 21 years, many changes have taken place--total computerization, third party growth, increased staff, etc . The mission remains the same--to educate patients about their medication.
