Briefly describe Innovation:

Mr. Pace attended a course on Hyperlipidemia in New Orleans, Louisiana. The course was sponsored by APHA and Merck Pharmaceuticals. There were sixty of the courses held on a nationwide basis. Merck was searching for pharmacists interested in participating in a drug study whereby their prescription only product for hyperlipidemia could be reclassified as an over-the-counter product. There will be thirty-three pharmacies chosen over the United States to participate in the study and Mr. Pace is awaiting the final authorization that he has been chosen to participate in the study. Twenty patients from his area will be assigned to a specific doctor for hyperlipidemia treatment. They will be prescribed the Merck medication and sent to Pace Pharmacy for their course of therapy. During the course of one year, each patient will have three cholesterol screenings performed by the pharmacist. These screenings will include a "finger-stick" to be performed by the pharmacist as a measurement of LDL, HDL and TG. The pharmacist will also compile a complete journal on each patient according to FDA guidelines. At the end of the one-year period, all information will be turned over to Merck, the financial sponsor of the project. Mr. Pace's intention is to involve himself in as many of these studies as he can as an alternative source of income for his pharmacy.
