Briefly describe innovation

Mr. Prickett is a pharmacist in a community pharmacy which provides special compounding services, IV preparation, and counseling services with managed care for patients with special illnesses, such as diabetes, asthma, etc. He compounds certain products for patients with special needs, such as dosage forms that differ from the marketed prescription or OTC product. He also compounds dosage forms no longer available, like scopolamine gel for patients formerly using Trans-derm Scop patches. Mr. Prickett said that he does some IV preparation, but this is not a primary source of business. He talked about the counseling services available for diabetes and asthma patients. He also talked about future plans of allowing customers to bring their children into the pharmacy for physical assessment of their ears when parents suspect that their child has an ear infection. He said he would offer this service for a small fee and feels that parents would be willing to pay the fee because the visit may save them a trip to the child’s pediatrician.

Method of Reimbursement
