Mr. Robertson is a preceptor for the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. His place of employment was selected by MedOutcomes to be the site of a study. This study was designed to determine the effects of patient counseling and management of disease states and drug regimen on overall health care costs. The study included management of four major disease states: hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and hypercholesterolemia. The focus of the study was to assess the amount of money that insurance companies saved due to the management of these disease states.
Method of Reimbursement
Payor(s): Mr. Robertson stated that the study is over and did prove significant cost savings with patient management. However, no form of reimbursement has yet been received. He is still trying to get reimbursed. The type of reimbursement that he is pursuing is not a fee for service but is a risk-sharing relationship.

Is documentation required? Yes, documentation is required to maintain records of all interventions for the purposes of the study and reimbursement.
Specialized training required? No special training was required, however, he did receive refresher courses and training modules on the latest treatments of the diseases included in the study.
Software / instrumentation required? Mr. Robertson stated that MedOutcomes provided the software that contained the proper documentation procedures and forms that were required to be submitted for each patient in the study. The basic setup of the software program was a chart system.
