Brad Barker, BSEE is originally from Sarasota, FL. He graduated from the Auburn University School of Electrical Engineering in 1980 and has worked in Healthcare I.T. for over 20 years, most recently in hospitals including Baptist Health in Montgomery, AL, Evanston Northwestern outside of Chicago, IL and St. Vincent's in Birmingham, AL. He has also worked for HBOC/McKesson and TeleMed in Atlanta, GA.
Brad worked in both the health-system industry as a software development person and in "every known I.T. specialty" in hospital support, from P.C. Technician, Developer, Network Manager, Sys Admin, Systems Analyst and Operations Manager and has implemented over 100 different applications, including Cerner, McKesson and Meditech primary hospital applications. He implemented the electronic medical records system for Baptist Health and, as part of a team, replaced the Siemens SMS system with McKesson's Horizon line of products. As President of NetConsult, he has also developed several commercial software applications, one of which was licensed to MedAccuracy of Kansas City, MO by Auburn University. He returned to Auburn University in 2004 to pursue a PhD and work as a consultant on Information Technology applications in pharmacy.
Mr. Barker's research interests are focused on the application of technology to healthcare environments. As part of his 20 years experience, he's observed how hospitals make decisions about advanced technology and the successes and failures of implementing "bleeding edge" applications. He would like to create a methodology to increase the success rate of implementing I.T. applications in hospitals.
Brad enjoys fishing, playing with his grandchildren and reading.
