Program Outcomes
Pharmacists completing the Residency in Pharmacy Practice at EAMC/AUHSOP will be competent and confident practitioners of pharmaceutical care in multiple patient-care environments, equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of current and future pharmacy practice. They will be accountable and responsible for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes as members of the health care team. These pharmacists will exercise skill and proficiency in educating other health care professionals, patients, and the community on drug-related topics. They will demonstrate maturity by following a personal philosophy of practice, monitoring their own performance, and exhibiting commitment to the profession.
Resident Responsibilities
The program allows the flexibility to select activities which will complement the resident’s background and career goals. Residents will develop expertise in each of the following areas of pharmacy practice: acute patient care, ambulatory patient care, drug information and drug use policy development, and practice management. Rotations are usually 5-6 weeks in length and are structured to provide a solid, fundamental experience but are flexible as to recognize individual interests. A residency project is required and special projects are encouraged in each area of concentration. The program will also provide experience in learning how to coordinate the provision of pharmaceutical care with the needs of the institution and foster the ability to conceptualize and implement new pharmacy services. The resident will have the experience to participate in our "Faculty College" which is a developmental program to provide new faculty with skills necessary to develop student- centered, active learning, assessment driven learning experiences. Opportunities to teach didactic courses, facilitate pharmacotherapy modules, and precept pharmacy students exist in this residency program.
