Rho Chi is the national honor society of pharmacy established at Auburn in 1925, the sixth chapter formed. Like all honor societies, Rho Chi had as its fundamental objective the stimulation and recognition of academic excellence. Through its activities, the Society has also served as an instrument for advancement of the profession of pharmacy.
The undergraduate who is elected to active membership is one who has:
- an excellent academic record;
- a capacity for achievement in the science and art of pharmacy and the allied sciences;
- and strength of character;
- personality;
- leadership;
- ranked in the highest twenty percent of the class;
- obtained a scholastic average equivalent to the second-highest letter grade;
- completed six semesters or nine quarters, of scholastic credit applicable toward the degree granted by the Harrison School of Pharmacy.
Rho Chi elections occur once a year in both the fourth year and the fifth year of the pharmacy curricula. The Society also provides for graduate student, faculty, alumni, and honorary memberships.
Rho Chi has been playing a significant role in raising the standard of American Colleges of Pharmacy and the profession as a whole. Perhaps even more important is the role of Rho Chi in the development of the leaders for American pharmacy. Honoring as it does those students with outstanding abilities and achievements, Rho Chi, by its very existence, selects the leadership and provides them with the challenges to use their potentialities.
The members of Rho Chi welcome you to Auburn University and the Harrison School of Pharmacy, and hopes you are successful at Auburn and after graduation. It is also the hope of Rho Chi that through your diligent work, the honor of admission into the society will be bestowed on you.
