Alexis Ramos is the Manager of Animal Care Unit for the Harrison School of Pharmacy's Research Programs unit. Ramos originally joined the school in June 2019 as a laboratory technician and transitioned into his current role in December 2020.
Ramos earned a B.S. degree in biology from Florida International in 2015 and a master's in plant breeding, genetics, and genomics from Georgia in 2018. Prior to coming to the Harrison School of Pharmacy, he worked as a research technician at the University of Florida.
As the manager of the Animal Care Unit, he oversees routine animal care and maintenance of equipment and facilities to meet regulatory requirements of the animal care unit. This could include supervising maintenance, repair, installation, and removal of equipment and facilities within the animal care unit; managing procurement and logistical processes for equipment and supplies used in the unit; assisting the director in planning, developing, and drafting protocols pertaining to employees, facilities and equipment; and assisting in employee accident prevention, first aid programs, and safety operations in the unit.
Additionally, he prepares and maintains documentation associated with animal care, animal census and facility repairs and maintenance; supervises and provides daily management of animal care trainees, technicians, and technologists assigned to the animal care unit; approves, prepares for and receives routine animal housing requests; inspects buildings, fences, supplies and equipment in order to determine work to be performed; and performs quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory requirements of the animal care unit.
