Allison Helmer, Pharm.D., BCACP, is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Harrison School of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice on the school's Mobile campus. Dr. Helmer earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (2012) degree at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy - Columbia Campus. She completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency with a focus in ambulatory care at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2013 and joined the HSOP faculty in August 2013. She became a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist in 2014. While on faculty at Auburn, Dr. Helmer has been honored with the Regional Preceptor of Excellence Award for the Mobile Region in 2017 and 2019.
Dr. Helmer teaches in various courses throughout the PharmD curriculum. Additionally, she is involved with clinical practice teaching, service, and scholarship within the School. She is active in several regional and national pharmacy organizations, including the Alabama Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ALSHP) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
Dr. Helmer’s scholarship interests include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and pharmacy education. She has published and presented on these topics at the regional and national level.
Dr. Helmer practices at the University of South Alabama Stanton Road Clinic, an internal medicine clinic in Mobile, Alabama. She works collaboratively with numerous healthcare providers to manage patients with chronic conditions. She works closely with both resident physicians and medical students to provide pharmaceutical education and deliver comprehensive patient care. Additionally, she manages patients with diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia in her Pharmacotherapy Clinic at Stanton Road Clinic.
