Bio

Education:

  • B.Sc., Pharmaceutical Sciences - East West University (Bangladesh), 2018

Research Areas:

  • I always had dream of pursuing higher studies in abroad which helped me to choose Auburn University as my graduate school to start with. I liked the pharmacology part from my bachelors which helped to choose the Department Drug Discovery and Development. My supervisor works with Pharmacogenomics which is a new interesting concept to learn for me. Before my master’s program, I worked as a research volunteer at his lab and got hands on experience over all the instruments and experiments performed here. I finally could decide this field as my starting career on graduate study. I will work on this field more in future and develop my skills, knowledge. I am really grateful to my supervisor and the Harrison College of Pharmacy for accepting me as a prospect student and help me to persue my dream.

I am Salsabil Ahmed came from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I completed my bachelors in pharmaceutical sciences from East West University in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2018. My undergrad thesis was on "In Vitro Pharmacological Investigations on Dichloromethane (DCM) Fraction of Albizia saman Leaf Extract.” Where I focused on the powdered leaves of Albizia saman were extracted with methanol and then partitioned with n-hexane, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate consecutively. The DCM fraction remaining was investigated for total flavonoid content, total phenol content and antimicrobial test. The fraction contained 16.435 mg AAE/gm of dried extract in total phenolic content assay and 7.05 mg quercetin/gm of dried extract in total flavanoid content assay. In antimicrobial activity investigation, the DCM fraction showed low to moderate antibacterial and antifungal activity against the tested organisms compared to ciprofloxacin that was used as positive control.

I have started M.S. in pharmaceutical sciences in pharmacology under the supervision of Dr. Amit Kumar Mitra. I have been a research volunteer since fall-2020 under my advisor. I learned the basic lab techniques, lab works at his field. My research area will be focused in Pharmacogenomics where pharmacology combines with genomics or genes. Work mainly targets personalized medicines and detection of pharmacologic pathways of drug targets. Effectives of certain drugs on variety of cancers. Drug repurposing is also a concern at my field where drug of a particular disease used for cancer treatments.

I have mainly started to work on prostate cancer along with its drug Docetaxel, Carbazitaxel, Clofazamine etc. I will also be working on drug screening from the drug library, to check or lead any potent chemical compound for cancer treatment.

I have research interest on wide variety of sectors of pharmacy which includes, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Nano-biotechnology, Nano-medicine, Cancer Research, Clinical Survey, Biochemistry, Pharma-cognosy, medicinal chemistry. Since I am working on pharmacogenomics, it will create more interest for me to work with it in future too.

During my undergrad, I was also undergraduate teaching assistant where I took several lab classes, checked exam copies, finalized grades, communicate with students. It has created a great experience which will help me when need. I also did in-plant training in Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Where I gained hands-on experience in pharmaceutical operations, received knowledge on recent developments in drug discovery. I experienced an industrial tour in Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. In Dhaka, Bangladesh which gave me hands-on experience in pharmaceutical operations, also received knowledge on recent developments in drug discovery.

I did poster presentation in Pharmacy Day on “Melanoma and Non-melanoma epidermis tumors, squamous cell and basil cell carcinoma” and also did project on 3-D Structure of a Pharmaceuticals Industry, Integrative and Innovative Studies for the Preparation of Pharmaceuticals Products from Natural Resources. I have been an organizer and volunteer of Pharmacy Day and also been member of East West University Pharmacy Association, team leader of East West University Cultural Club. I have always been good spontaneous sportsmanship with direct participation in number of indoor and outdoor game.
