Bio

Marcia Gannon is the Animal Care Unit Manager for the Harrison College of Pharmacy. Marcia has been employed with Auburn University since 2014 transitioning from the College of Veterinary Medicine to the College of Pharmacy in 2023. Marcia has more than 20 years of experience in veterinary medicine caring for a variety of species including sea turtles, marine mammals, raptors, exotic species, and small companion animals.

As the Animal Care Unit Manager, Marcia currently oversees the day-to-day operations of the animal care unit, which includes ensuring the welfare of the animals within the animal care unit, providing medical care as needed, supervising unit staff; maintaining training records for unit staff, procuring inventory items, developing standard operating procedures, inspecting facilities, supervising maintenance of the facility, and performing quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory requirements.

Gannon is a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator, a Fear Free Certified Professional, a Trail Blazer Alumnus of Auburn University’s Supervisor Pathways Program, and trained as a Certified Euthanasia Technician. She is a member of various professional organizations relating to veterinary medicine and animal care, including the Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, Alabama Veterinary Technician Association, American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, National Wildlife Rehabilitators Council, National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association, and the Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians.

Marcia and her husband, Peter, enjoy traveling, fostering dogs, spending time outdoors, and devoting time to spend with good friends and family.
