The Department of Pharmacy Practice promotes the safe and effective use of medications, with a goal of improving the health of Alabama citizens. The department’s primary focus is the development, implementation, and enhancement of innovative pharmacy practice models within Alabama communities which improves the quality of life.

The department is involved in scholarship that integrates the areas of pharmacy education, practice, and outreach to develop, broaden, and communicate knowledge while serving as hands-on, patient-care practitioners and clinical practice preceptors for doctor of pharmacy candidates and residents.

The department is comprised of 38 faculty members, each of whom is assigned to geographic regions throughout Alabama, including Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, Auburn, Mobile, and Columbus, Georgia. These faculty members provide quality fourth-year experiential rotations for doctor of pharmacy students. In addition, they provide instruction in the therapeutics component of the curriculum.
