Sean Smithgall, Pharm.D., joined the Harrison College of Pharmacy in August, 2016 and is currently an associate clinical professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice on the college’s Mobile campus. Dr. Smithgall earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy in 2014. He went on to complete a PGY-1 residency in pharmacotherapy at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. He followed that up with a PGY-2 residency in ambulatory care at the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University.
Dr. Smithgall is an active member in the Alabama Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ALSHP), the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Dr. Smithgall’s research interest include transitions of care, interprofessional education, and implementation of shared-decision-making models in primary care practice.
As a clinical faculty member, Dr. Smithgall maintains a practice site in ambulatory care at the University of South Alabama Family Medicine Clinic in Mobile, Alabama. Dr. Smithgall has been a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist since 2017. He focuses in chronic disease state management, population health, and transitions of care. He cares for mainly indigent patients along the Gulf Coast.
