Jackson receives APAA Distinguished Service Award

AUBURN, Alabama - Dr. Jessica Jackson, a member of the Harrison College of Pharmacy Class of 2011, was recently recognized as the 2009 recipient of the Auburn Pharmacy Alumni Affiliate Distinguished Service Award. The award was presented at the Auburn Breakfast at the Alabama Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting and Convention on June 10 at The Lodge at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Jackson serves as the Clinician in Residence with the Prosper Health Tech Accelerator in Birmingham, where she is a Population Health Strategist for health technology companies recruited to Alabama both nationally and internationally. In addition to this, she practices community pharmacy in the greater Birmingham area.

“Jessica has a passion for improving health care and making a difference in her community,” said Dr. Leigh Ann Ross, Dean of the Harrison College of Pharmacy. “She has given of her time and talents, advancing the profession of pharmacy throughout the state and continues to make a difference every day.”

Upon receiving her Pharm.D. from HCOP in 2011, Jackson went on to complete a master’s of public health degree in healthcare organization and policy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Building off her foundation, Jackson has been committed to advancing health care outcomes through innovation and strategic leadership. Her expertise extends to pharmacy management, leadership roles and digital health strategy, reflecting her comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of health care delivery.

An advocate for pharmacy and patients, she has been active in a number of organizations and recognized for her efforts. An active member of the Alabama Pharmacy Association, or APA, since 2012, she served on the Board of Trustees from 2019-20. She was also recognized as the Pharmacist's Mutual Young Pharmacist of the Year Award in 2018.

She has also been active with the Alabama Department of Public Health, participating in the Office of Women’s Health Steering Committee since 2020. From 2019-21, she served the Alabama Medicaid Agency as a member of the Drug Utilization Review Board.

Within HCOP, Jackson has served as the inaugural chair of the college’s Black Alumni Council, working to develop its mission and pillars.
