Shahariar Mohammed Fahim is a Ph.D. student in the Health Outcomes and Policy option at Harrison School of Pharmacy. He completed his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Khulna University, Bangladesh. He also worked for a pharmaceutical company before coming to the United States.
His interest is in epidemiology and he has extensive experience in different healthcare database analyses. Fahim has used FDA Adverse Events Reporting System (FAERS) database for his first publication entitled, “Adverse Event Reporting Patterns of Concurrent Botanical Dietary Supplements with CYP3A4 Substrate & CYP3A4 Non- interactive Anticancer Drugs in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).” His second publication highlighted the citizen petition policy and its effects on generic drug approval.
Currently, he is leading several research projects which involve Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) Database, SEER-Medicare Database, Medicare, and Medicaid databases. Fahim also has experience in reviewing clinical trials for policymakers under the flagship project named “Drug Effectiveness Review Project (DERP)” of the Center for Evidence-based Policy. He is passionate about epi related methodological work and psychiatry. Therefore, his dissertation work includes using a novel approach, named as trial replication method, in the Real-World Data (RWD) for psychiatric conditions among different age groups. The results will inform the validity and appropriateness of using the trial design replication process in the RWD, especially focusing on different age groups using psychiatric medications.
Outside of his work, Fahim enjoys playing soccer and table tennis with friends.
Ultimately, Fahim intends to finish the graduate program and engage in work that most directly generates efficacy and safety evidence for drug use among the real-world population.
